The contest is open to journalists and subjects globally, although the content must have been published in Canada and made widely available to a Canadian audience. Self-published work is not eligible. You may nominate your own work or someone else's. 

There is no fee to enter.

The cover letter should be 1-2 pages and summarize the content of the reporting and explain why it deserves the prize according to the mission of the Hillman Foundation. Please describe the impact of the reporting and the methods used. Make sure to include the following information in your letter:

  • Date the entry was published
  • Title of the entry
  • Publication/outlet name
  • Job titles for all contributors

A cover letter and 4 copies of the book are all that are required. The cover letter should be 1-2 pages and summarize the content of the book and explain why it deserves the prize according to the mission of the Hillman Foundation. Please describe the impact of the book and the reporting methods used. Make sure to include the following information in your letter:

  • Publisher name
  • Date the book was published
  • Job titles for all contributors
