The 2019 Hillman Prizes for Journalism will be given to journalism published in 2018.

Eligible entries include reporting in newspapers, magazines and online, as well as television and radio, tablets and multi-media.     

This form will close at 12 a.m. on January 15, 2019. 

The contest is open to journalists and subjects globally, although the content must have been published in 2018 in Canada and made widely available to a Canadian audience. Self-published work is not eligible. You may nominate your own work or someone else's. 

There is no fee to enter.

The cover letter should be 1-2 pages and summarize the content of the reporting and explain why it deserves the prize according to the mission of the Hillman Foundation. Please describe the impact of the reporting and the methods used.

  Book Journalism (bound volumes and ebooks)

  The received-by deadline is January 30, 2019. 

  The contest is open to journalists and subjects globally, although book must have been published in english in the U.S in 2018. You may nominate your own book or someone else's. Self-published books are not eligible.

  There is no entry fee.

 A cover letter and 4 copies of the book are all that are required. The cover letter should be 1-2 pages and summarize the content and impact of the book and explain why it deserves the prize according to the mission of the Hillman Foundation. 

  Newspaper Journalism (story or series/in print or online) 


  The deadline is January 30, 2019. 

  The contest is open to journalists and subjects globally, although reporting must     have been published in 2018 in the U.S.  You may nominate your own work or someone else's. 

  There is no entry fee.

  A cover letter and a copy of the story/series are all that are required.  The cover letter should be 1-2 pages and summarize the content of the story/series, it's impact, and why it deserves the prize according to the mission of the Hillman Foundation. Please describe the impact of the reporting and the methods used.

  Opinion & Analysis Journalism (any medium) 

  Includes all types of advocacy, opinion, commentary and analysis, regardless of medium. Open to newspaper and magazine columnists, TV and radio presenters, podcasters, blogs, and bloggers.
